Independent Learning Centre

The Independent Learning Centre (ILC) provides education support for year 9-13 students with significant learning difficulties. Some students also have physical difficulties. Students may spend as little as two or three hours a week, or as much time as needed in the Centre, receiving additional support targeted at their individual learning needs.

This programme is complemented by the 'Manawatu Pilot' where more flexibility is offered to students who may not be able to attend school as regularly as others, often for health reasons.

 How this works
Students achieve educational success by working at their own pace in a non-threatening, supportive environment and through an active partnership with the school, caregivers and community resource personnel.

Work experience through the local community (Years 11-13) is also accessed if needed.

Specialist teaching staff, supported by a competent team of Associate Staff, promote student empowerment by assisting students to meet their individual social and educational goals.
