Rumaki (Māori Immersion)

Ko te Kaupapa matua o te Kahurangi Rumaki, ko te Manaaki i a tatou tamariki e whai ana i te reo Māori hei reo matua mö rātou. Ko te whakapiki hoki i ngā taumata o te mātauranga.

This unit provides the opportunity for year 9 and 10 students who are fluent in Te Reo to receive a total Māori immersion programme in Social Studies, Māori Language, Mathematics, Science, Health and Information Technology.

By furthering their Māori immersion education in a mainstream setting, students are exposed to the wide range of opportunities and cultural diversity that a large secondary school can offer.

Students enjoy low classroom-teacher ratios, and twice a term parental meetings to monitor their progress.

Entry into this unit is by special application. Entry requirements include either previous Māori immersion experience, or by meeting vocabulary, written and oral criteria.

The school also offers successful school and regional kapa haka groups.
