The Teen Parent Unit (TPU) aims to provide a holistic educational experience teaching both NCEA credits and life skills. The unit is home to 13-19 year old girls who are having or have had a child and have been unable to complete their schooling.
Support Staff
With a social worker, child nurse, public health nurse and counsellors
all available on staff, girls are able to bring in their children who are
looked after during the day while they study.
Study Options
Courses of study are tailored to individual's needs. Students choose a
well resourced course of
Unit and Achievement standards aiming to gain NCEA Levels, and prepare
themselves for opportunities in society. Former students have gone on to study towards
degrees at Massey University, Hospitality and sports science qualifications
at UCOL, and also successfully into the work force.
The Teen Parent Unit also aims to equip girls with the skills to cope
with everyday life.
Topics studied include home-budgeting, dealing with
power and phone companies, and self-belief.
