Year 13s serve up Asian Banquet
Seventeen year 13 catering students served up an "Asian
Banquet" for a teacher of their choice as part of a level 3 unit standard
this term. The students had to plan the menu and its budget, create
invitations, decorate tables, select recipes and prepare the food. Teacher
in charge, Mrs Kumar said “They really had to do everything”
The three course meal was exquisite, with an Entrée including Chinese Dumplings, Sushi, and Samosas. The main course was served buffet style, with the Chicken Satay proving popular. For dessert the students served up Apples Fritters, Deep Fried Ice Cream, and an exotic fruit salad.
Honoured and well fed, Matua Tipene described the meal as ‘Kua Makona’ – meaning ‘very satisfying’. Mr Wilkinson (Doc) was so impressed, he could only think of an unrepeatable English expression to describe the meal.
The year 13 course is aimed at giving students a taste of the hospitality and tourism industry. Judging by their Asian Banquet, these students will be well prepared to serve many more.
