Nail-Biting Interhouse Volleyball finals

It all came down to the final few seconds in the Freyberg Interhouse Volleyball competition this week. The unbeaten Ruahine seniors lost the serve with 12 seconds to go in the final allowing Kapiti to clinch a one point victory.

Having won every junior and senior round-robin game the Ruahine mixed volleyball teams were almost certain to win the competition. In contrast, the recent good form of Manawatu house certainly didn't extend to Volleyball.

The Ruahine juniors faced Tararua in their final. Steadied by Kelly Black in mid court, Ruahine easily dominated their final with score-lines such as 15-8.

Kapiti then had it all to play for in the senior game. Athletes like first XV rugby team mates Andy Kruy and James Buchanan (pictured) lined up on opposite sides of the net in an impressive aerial display. With the lead changing several times throughout the game, it was Kapiti who just snuck passed Ruahine in the final 12 seconds.
