Kapiti College Sports Exchange
After much rushing around when the bus had a puncture, we finally arrived at Kapiti College for our annual sports and cultural exchange on the 6th June.
We arrived to a rousing powhiri and off to get involved in our games. While we didn’t manage to hold the cup this year, the students were great and played well. Their behaviour was impeccable and we are very proud of them.

Our boys football team were up against several NZ representative players
in the Kapiti team so didn’t manage to win that game, but our girls football
(with Freyberg’s NZ representative player - Jodi Curtis) managed to clean up
the Kapiti team.
In basketball, we were just pipped at the post by the Kapiti senior boys and the junior girls team, made up of a selection of juniors not involved in netball, had a hard game but couldn’t manage to hold the Kapiti girls.
Mr Watling was delighted with his squash team, they had a clean sweep in
their competition.
Netball was a hard fought campaign, but we didn’t come up winners here, but
a good hard training experience for our girls.
The hockey games were held in Levin, our girls won convincingly but our boys were held out by a very strong Kapiti team.

Our 1st XV Boys rugby team had a very hard workout against a Kapiti team who
had had quite a few games already under their belt for the season, but in an
exciting second half, Freyberg gained the advantage and thanks to Jesse
Loft’s hat trick of tries, we won the game.
The theatre-sports was a crazy and entertaining event. It is a hard event to score, and after deliberation between the two judges, it ended up that Kapiti won by one point.
