Library refurbished and re-opened
After six years of planning, funding rounds, legal consents,
re-planning, and finally building, Freyberg's $500,000 Library-refurbishment
is finally complete.
The refurbishments include:
- Increased natural light
- Heat pumps (where once there was no heating at all)
- An extended computer bay
- A secure bag storage area and foyer
- A new work-area for book processing and administration
- Discrete archive and A/V rooms
- A classroom-sized "Mezzanine floor" with sound proofing and offices
- Room for three classes to comfortably use the library simultaneously
At the opening ceremony held this week, Principal Peter Brooks talked about how much value Freyberg places on literacy, and how the library is the hub of the school's literacy.
New Zealand poet, Karlo Mila spoke at the opening, sharing some of her poems, and love of language with the 100 staff and students in attendance.
