Splash Carnival run by Student Pirates
160 Year 9 and 10 students gathered this week at the Freyberg Community pool to compete in events such as a Pirate quiz, building a raft, Pirate costume relay, and a Slippery Plank run. With only a few points separating the top two houses for the 2010 inter-house competition, Tararua and Manawatu house were desparate to win the carnival.
The
event was organised by year 13 sport and leisure students who patrolled
the pool wearing pirate costumes and temporary pirate tattoos. Teacher
in charge - Mr Lowe, was pleased to report the group had done a great job
without needing any help, as he marched the pool in his Captain Jack Sparrow
costume (pictured).
Lead year 13 student Alana Crooks was relieved and joyous that the
event came together so well, noting all the hours her team put in over the
exam fortnight.
"Thanks also to our generous sponsors" said Alana,
"Beaurepairs, The Warehouse, Harvey Norman, Firestone, Bunnings
Warehouse, Mishy's Kitchen, and Mr Lowe donated some stuff too."
She enjoyed describing a rather small year 9 boy carrying away a rather
large BBQ spot prize donated by Bunnings.
