Freyberg Win Taradale Exchange
Over 360 students competed in 13 events across 8 sports in this week’s
“Taradale Sports Exchange”. Freyberg won the encounter 6-3 with a further
four games drawn.
The
Trophy – a Taradale riverbed stone with a Salamander carved into it, was won
back from Taradale this year with a convincing victory to Freyberg in the
exchange's third year.
Freyberg were undefeated in all of the girls events, and also won Boys
basketball and Senior boys rugby. Interestingly all three racquet sports
were drawn (Squash, Badminton and Table Tennis).
Freyberg Sports Coordinator Rosemary Barsanti was thankful to the sports
council who were great ambassadors for Freyberg, and all of the students who
refereed a game. A great effort was put in by Year 13 student Matt McEwen
who after finishing playing hockey, spent the afternoon refereeing both
rugby games.
Mr Stephen Hensman, principal of Taradale High School advised his students
that the lunch put on by Mishy’s Kitchen at Freyberg would be a tremendous
experience, and he wasn’t wrong. Taradale students were also ‘blown away’
with the singing at their welcoming powhiri before the games commenced.
